Global Markets Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Rotational program,

What I wish was different

Politics at the firm, training, the ability to put you in the right rotation, some people are not very friendly and open to interns

Advice

Make sure you understand the product. That's more important than networking. It's a difficult internship because you don't have your series 7 and can't trade.

What I liked

It was a wonderful experience. Everyone on the team was super helpful and ready to teach you new things whenever you ask. The team was also lean, so I got a lot of hands-on experience and even some client exposure.

What I wish was different

Nothing. They handled the whole remote situation very well.

Advice

Be proactive and ask good questions.

intern

July - September 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

We explored different topics and avenues to assess global debt. It was a growing program which adapted to the needs of the situation and focussed on skill development. This helped develop analytical skills, look at different data sets and trends to ask relevant questions, see what meaning we could draw from sources and identify how one economic event can contribute to another. At the end, we got to present our findings and report to representatives from the Federal Reserve in Dallas.

What I wish was different

In person would've allowed more extensive conversations on the research we undertook. While I appreciate how the program grew to tailor itself to our scope and interests if we did have a better idea of what the final project could look like we would've had a more focussed approach to allow more intensive evaluation.

Advice

It is not a traditional apprenticeship. There is scope to learn from students from many backgrounds but it is only beneficial if treated like a learning opportunity. Contributing to conversations and providing your perspective is important whether it is a point to add, something to remove, something to focus on or a question regarding any part of the discussion.

investment banking summer analyst

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the autonomy and level of responsibility I was given immediately as a summer analyst. During my time with the firm, I got the opportunity to work on real live deals and make meaningful contributions. I was also given a high level of exposure to senior bankers by working directly alongside them in my deals.

Advice

They aren’t looking for someone who knows it all or just wants finance. They want someone who is willing to grow, who wants to learn, and who brings in a unique perspective and a different style of thinking. Study what you like because it is definitely applicable and an advantage!
